Autism Solutions for Kids is pleased to collaborate with specialized practitioners from various disciplines to offer exclusive workshops and classes:

Parent and Child Social Skills Training Program for age 6-12: Develop evidence-based skills to achieve social success!
Text Box: Social Skills Classes for Elementary School Age Children (age 6-12)

ASK is now accepting application for 3rd– 5th grade group!

* Group meets on Wednesdays, 4:30pm-5:30pm

* Dates: 2/15—5/9, no meeting on 4/11/12

* Meeting Location: Mardan School in Irvine

* Application Option: online application
                                       or call 949-791-9ASK

* Fee:  Program may be covered by insurance or self-pay.  Contact ASK Office at 949-791-9ASK.

* Group placement is determined by age and compatibility.

* Enrollment is limited to 10 children per class.

* Regular attendance is imperative. 

* Parent participation is required. 

* ASK cannot guarantee the program will be covered by any insurance program.  Families should confirm coverage benefits and obtain necessary pre-authorization.

Based on Children ‘s Friendship Training, this successful 12-week evidence-based program is designed for parents and children in elementary school (1st grade—6th grade) who have difficulty making and/or keeping friends.

 

During each group session, children learn a new skill, practice with group members, receive coaching on their play skills and are given a homework assignment in which they try out their newly learned skill:

 

·  Conversational skills

·  How to make a good first impression

·  How to find common interests

·  How to join a group of kids at play

·  How to handle rejection, teasing and bullying

·  How to be a good host on a play date

·  How to be a good winner

·  How to be a good sport

·  How to show respect to adult supervisors

·  How to take perspectives

·  How to follow “theory of mind”

 

Parents attend a concurrent class and will learn how to help their children to make and keep friends by using the skills taught in the program.

Dr. Alexander Gantman, Psy.D., received his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from UCLA; and he obtained Doctoral Degree in Clinical Psychology from Palo Alto University - Stanford University Medical School Psy.D Consortium in 2008. Until recently, when he decided to move into private practice, he was a Clinical Psychologist at the UCLA Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior, as well as an Assistant Director of the UCLA PEERS Program. Dr. Alex was also an Autism Clinical Instructor at the UCLA Tarjan Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities.

 

Kimberly Orliczky, M.A., BCBA, received Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University and became a Board Certified Behavior Analyst in 2003.  Ms. Orliczky’s training and experience include ABA intervention, behavior management and assessment, social skills training, parent effective training, UCLA Children’s Friendship Training for elementary school children, and PEERS (Program for the Education and Enrichment of Relational Skills) for middle and high school students.

* Group size: 10-12 students per class.

About PEERS (Program for the Education and Enrichment of Relational Skills): this successful 14-week evidence-based program is designed for parents and motivated teenagers (7th—12th grade) who are interested in learning ways to help them make and keep friends. During each group session, participants learn a new skill, practice during play activity, receive coaching on their social skills and are given a homework assignment in which they try out their newly learned skill:

 

· How to use appropriate conversational skills

· How to find common interests by trading information

· How to appropriately use humor

· How to enter and exit conversations between peers

· How to handle rejection, teasing, and bullying

· How to handle rumors and gossip

· How to be a good host during get-togethers

· How to make phone calls to friends

· How to choose appropriate friends

· How to be a good sport

· How to handle arguments and disagreements

· How to change a bad reputation

· How to take perspectives

· How to follow “theory of mind”

 

Parents attend a concurrent class and will learn how to help their teenagers to make and keep friends by using the skills taught in the program.
